Orange vs. Black Final Score
Today was the last day of the CBAT orange vs. black competition. We each did a 200 I.M. and a 25 in an all-team relay. There was also two "make-up" backstroke heats. The score went back and forth, but I am happy to report that the black team (my team) won overall by only one point! Afterward, we had a great lunch and some fun conversation. Thanks to the CBATS for inviting me to participate in your event. It was a great way to finish off my string of 39 workouts.
Get psyched for tomorrow--the final swim! I am going to attempt to do 40 50's beginning on the 1:15 and ending on the :40. There will be lots of alternatives for those who want to participate but do not want to do those intervals. Come one come all!

40 miles!!!
During the middle of my workout today I passed the 40 mile mark! Whoopie!! Even though I am a little ahead of schedule, I still plan on swimming at least a mile the last two days. If all goes as planned, I should make 43 miles by the end of the last swim on Saturday. I am happy to have accomplished my goal, but am also a little nostalgic. My body is ready for a rest, though. (:

Orange vs. Black
I swam with the CBATs again today and we continued the "swim meet". Today's events were the 100 breast and 100 free. The score is pretty tight, so it will all depend on the 200 I.M. scheduled for Friday.

Special B-Day Workout
Since today was my actual birthday, I was joined by Steve, Julie, Gayle, Elizabeth, and Nathan for a fun birthday set. We swam in the shallow end and did 40 30's on the :40. It was a really fun way to bid farewell to the 30's and say hello to the 40's. Thanks to all of you for joining me and making my birthday set memorable!

Last Swim In My 30's
For today's workout, I joined the CBATS on campus for the first of a three day orange vs. black "swim meet". Each one of us swam a 100 fly and a 100 back for time and then the scores were tallied based upon our times. On Wednesday, we will see whether the orange or black team is ahead.
Since tomorrow is my actual birthday, today was the last swim of my 30's! Tomorrow I'll see what this 40-year-old can do. (:

Virtual Swim
Today I swam "with" two long-time high school friends, Liz and Erich, who live in California. We all got into our respective pools at the designated time and thought of each other swimming 600 miles away.
During my workout, Gayle surprised me by getting into the water and taking some great underwater photos and video--a few examples are here.
Thanks Gayle for taking the photos and thanks Liz and Erich for swimming "with" me!

Descending Ladder Set
Today I was joined by Elizabeth and we did a great descending ladder set. Afterward we did a little speed work, which was a fun change from my usual workouts. Thanks Elizabeth for joining me again!

3/4 Of The Way Done!
To mark the 3/4 point, I did another straight 1 mile swim. I did it a little faster than last time, so I must be getting in better shape. Only 10 more days to go!

Swimming With My Son
Part way through my swim today, Sebbie got in and swam some "laps" with me. He wrapped his arms around my neck and kicked REALLY hard! He then got in the small pool and swam some laps on his own. He is becoming a really good swimmer. Thanks for joining me Sebbie!

Buddy Swim
Today I was joined by our friend Candace again. Even though this was only her second time swimming at Osborn, she completed a very impressive 1/2 mile! We did what I call a "buddy swim" where two people of different speeds start together and continue swimming until one catches the other, then they rest and start again. It was a fun swim. Thanks for joining me Candace!

Swim'n with my lover
Today, Cathy and I had a hot date. Her sister's Linda and Suzie stayed home with Sebbie and taught him how to play chess. Cathy and I went out like the old days BS (Before Sebbie) and swam a workout together at the Mt. Scott pool in SE Portland. A very lovely pool with an awesome kids area indoor adjacent to the 25 yard pool and a really awesome indoor fitness center. Turns out the$3.50 admission fee gets you into the fitness room chock full of modern weight and aerobic equipment. Anyway, the swim was awesome, 2000 yards, and she is getting into really nice swimming shape. We even took a few of the 100's down to 1:25 base - unheard of for her until now. Pretty darn good for an almost, but not quite 40 year old. We finished our swim in the hot pool! Can't wait for the special 40th set on December 8th.
Hope to see all of our swimming and non-swimming friends then.

Workout with Steve
Today was an especially great swim day because I got to swim an entire workout with my sweetie. Steve and I did 2000 yards at the Mt. Scott pool in Portland. I worked a little harder today than I normally do because I discovered that I still enjoy trying to impress my husband--much like when we were dating! (:

Big Family Swim
Before our family's Thanksgiving dinner (we always celebrate on Friday) I was joined by eight family members for my swim today: sisters Susie and Linda; nieces Sara, Teresa, and Eli; Sara's boyfriend Paul; and Steve and Sebbie. We swam at the Mt. Scott Pool in Portland and enjoyed the great facility including a hot tub, a big water slide, and a fun indoor rec pool. It was great to have so many of my family join me today--many thanks!

Swimming with CAT
Today I was able to join to the Corvallis Aquatic Team for their Thanksgiving Day workout. Since all the nearby pools were closed, I was very happy to find a way to get in my mile. This will help meet my goal of swimming EVERY day during the 40 days. Thanks to Coach Rick for letting me join you!

Swimming with Mom and Dad
Today I had the great fortune to be joined by my parents in the pool! They are visiting from California and, even though they are not regular swimmers, wanted to make sure they supported my 40 mile swim by getting in to join me. My dad swam a significant number of laps and my mom swam over half a mile! Thanks, Mom and Dad, for joining me!

More company
Today I swam part of my workout with friend Elaine--thanks for the company! My arms were a little tight but they loosened right up after doing some 100 I.M.'s. I am pretty psyched about only having 17 miles to go.

Over half way there!
Today I crossed over the half way point--only 19 miles to go. Gayle joined me again and she suggested a straight one-mile swim. It was a great idea and provided some good training for the one hour postal swim coming up next month. Thanks Gayle for being such a regular participant.
After I swam with Gayle, Steve and Sebbie got in and swam with me too. It was Sebbie's first time in "the big pool". After we swam a little, Sebbie sat on the edge and refereed a race between Steve and I. He said it was a tie. (: It was a thrill to have my family there to participate in one of my swims!

Group Swim
Today I was lucky enough to have three people join me--friends Elizabeth, Julie, and Joel (yet another coached by Steve long ago)! We swam two to a lane, side by side and had a great workout. Thanks to all three of you for the great group swim!

Ladder Kick Set
Today I swam with friend Katy (another person Steve coached when she was young) and we did a ladder set with lots of kick. The extra kicking was a fun change and gave my arms a chance to rest a little. Thanks for the company, Katy.

2 Guest Swimmers!
Today I was joined by friends Candace (this was her first time swimming laps at Osborn!) and repeat guest swimmmer Gayle. At Gayle's suggestion, we took a break half way through the main set to jump off the high dive. I attempted this once before and did not succeed, but today I faced my fears and did it! My heart was racing so fast when I landed that finishing the main set seemed like a relief. (:

Descending set
Our friend Julie (who Steve used to coach when she was a child!) came to swim with me today and also provided the workout. We did some descending work today, which was tiring but lots of fun. Thanks, Julie!

CBAT swim
Today I was able to join my CBAT swimming pals on campus for their regular noon swim. Coach Bill came up with the workout, so I was able to take the day off from thinking about what to swim. And, since the workout was longer than a mile, I have an extra 400 yards in the bank!

10 miles down!
Today I reached the 10 mile mark, so I am 1/4 of the way done! With the daily exercise I am getting tired, but I am definitely enjoying getting in better shape.

Ladder set
Today's workout was the inspiration of swimming friend Pat who joined me in the water today bright and early! Thanks Pat for the great workout and the company.

Back at Osborn
After two days swimming at Dixon (Osborn was closed), I am back at Osborn Aquatic Center. The pool is now set to 30 yards on one end and 25 yards on the other. Today Gayle came to swim with me again and we swam in the 30 yard end. We had a great workout that passed by quickly. Thanks for joining me again Gayle!

Hood River Guest Swimmer
My sister Linda (who just celebrated her 50th birthday!) drove down from Hood River this morning to swim with me today. She thought she would only do 1/2 of a mile but ended up going 3/4 of a mile! It was great to enjoy her company today. Thanks, Linda!

1 mile down, 39 to go
Today I began my forty miles! Gayle, a fellow swimming comrade, joined me and, at her suggestion, we did the first lap kick in order to commemorate the "kickoff". After so much time planning, it was fun to finally get started. Thanks Gayle for joining me!
